While most people think of Tokyo as a hustling city - energetic, crowded and buzzing- there’s a parallel universe where things are quiet and without haste. Where in the first Tokyo everything seems to be new, smooth-surfaced and loud, this second Tokyo is connected to the old, to rugged surfaces and handmade details.

I tried to capture the two Tokyos on the opening of our exhibit in Mienisi yesterday. We’re very grateful for everyone who stopped by, who took the time to visit. Yes, a lot of our conversations were lost in translation, but there’s an incredible understanding at the same time, and a lot of laughter.
