Risco narrates a twofold tale. The initial facet is a nod to the Spanish term risco: a steep and rocky outcrop on a mountain. The second layer delves deeper, linking to our charismatic friend surnamed Risco: an example of a multifaceted human, someone we kept in mind when designing this hat with an uneven flexible brim.
We wanted to create a model that is suitable both for riding a bike as for riding a storm. A rugged hat that wanders with you, helping you to realize that all those galaxies you yearn to explore reside deep within you.
Our premium wool felt is sourced from the last hat body factory in France, a small cooperative with over hundred years of history that lies in a valley in the French Pyrenees. Our hat bodies are exclusively made from wool of the Merino d’Arles sheep from the surrounding areas.
The felt is stiffened with natural gum made in our workshop. Shellac is an ancient stiffening agent renowned for its elasticity and shape-preserving properties.
All our sweatbands are made of vegetable-tanned cowhide leather from century-old tanneries of the North of Spain. Local hides are treated with traditional techniques and lengthy processes that use natural tannins and therefore this leather is high on durability and abrasion resistance.
We use a waterbased toxic-free wax to seal the edges of the sweatband, giving it a smooth final appearance.
With artisanal precision and using a saddle stitch technique, we meticulously hand-sew the leather sweatband to the hat using premium cable linen thread from French flax.
As the name suggests, the thread is specially twisted, heightening its strength and resulting in a rounded profile. Our thread is further fortified by applying natural beeswax.
